Next Level Basketball Camp

We have received several questions through the years from parents regarding camp and have collected many of those to answer here. We assume that if one parent asks, others must be wondering!

WHEN DOES CAMP BEGIN AND END?
Registration for each camp takes place on Sunday afternoon, beginning at noon and running through 2 pm. Camp will end on Thursday, around 2:00 pm. We understand that campers cannot all be picked up at this time. Please let us know if you need special arrangements for either drop-off or pick-up. (Day campers arrive at 8:45 am and leave at 9 pm, enjoying lunch and dinner with the rest of the campers.)

WHAT IS THE ADULT SUPERVISION LIKE AT CAMP?
All of the staff members sleep in the dorms with the campers. Campers are encouraged to travel with their teammates and coach throughout the day and are NEVER left unsupervised.

HOW IS SECURITY IN THE DORMS HANDLED?
Each dorm is equipped with locks that can only be accessed through security codes. The codes are given only to camp staff. All campers needing to enter the dorms can do so by speaking with members of the camp staff. Staff members will be present during break times and at the conclusion of the day’s events.

HOW DO ROOMMATE ASSIGNMENTS WORK?
All campers are assigned roommates at the beginning of camp. If your daughter is attending without a friend, we do our very best to find someone that is entering the same grade and is from a nearby town so that they can maintain their friendship after camp has ended. We have both primarily double-occupancy rooms (with a smaller number of triples) and will do our best to accommodate everyone’s requests. No child will be provided a single room. (Each room is furnished with a bed and dresser.)

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY ?
Initial deposits are non-refundable, with the only exception provided through a doctor’s note, less a $50.00 administrative fee. Requests for refunds must be made in writing by the Tuesday of the last day of camp.

DO YOU ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS?
We now accept credit cards for all payment, not just the registration deposit.  All credit card payments are assessed a $5 processing fee.

WHAT ARE MEALS LIKE?
All meals are served buffet style conveniently on campus. It is an all-you-can eat environment at each meal. There is a wide selection at meals; even picky eaters should be able to find something to eat!   If your daughter has a food allergy or dietary restrictions, please let us know either in writing or at registration.

CAN I WATCH MY DAUGHTER PLAY?
Camp is open at all times to parents, although we request that parents remain in the seating area or along the perimeter of the other areas of instruction. The dining hall is open to campers only. We will be posting a schedule of events and games on our website, and providing regular updates as needed. (www.nextlevelbballcamp.com)

ARE CELL PHONES ALLOWED?
Yes, but usage will be restricted to the dorms and during meals.

SHOULD MY DAUGHTER BRING SPENDING MONEY?
We have a camp store that is available to all of our campers. We DO NOT encourage the campers to have cash with them. We ask that at registration you make a cash deposit into the camp store. Your daughter then charges against that amount all week. On the last morning of camp we refund the money that your daughter has not used. The camp store will sell drinks, snacks and apparel and be open during camp and at night in the dorms.

HOW ARE CAMPERS GROUPED?
Campers will spend the majority of their time playing with others of their own age. At the outset of camp we have evaluation games. If a player needs to be moved to a different level then we will make the trade prior to the first full day of camp. We also make trades for the sake of parity and to create a competitive environment for games. All team assignments will be at the sole discretion of the camp staff.

WHO WILL BE COACHING AND TEACHING MY DAUGHTER?
We work hard to secure the highest-quality staff and to include more college and high school coaches in an effort to create a better opportunity for learning and growth. Current college players will be in attendance to help with stations and coach the teams in games, while also serving as positive role models.

WHAT IS THE COACH TO PLAYER RATIO?
The ratio is usually 7-8 campers to every coach. We also have several others on hand to assist with camp administration, security and programming.

WILL THE CAMP BE DIFFERENT FOR YOUNGER AND OLDER KIDS?
The camp will be tailored to each age group and coaches will be selected to work with those players based on their expertise and level of coaching. For instance, all high school players will receive instruction from college coaches and have additional opportunities to prepare themselves for their high school season or college. On Sunday night, all coaches will meet and determine the best level and grouping for the campers and monitor this during the course of the week, to ensure a challenging, yet confidence-building experience.

ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION?
Yes! We offer “early morning” workouts (prior to the official start time) and are willing to stay late or work with campers during meal times (after they eat, of course) if they are so interested. We are here for them, so tell your daughter to ask!

WHAT HAPPENS IF A CHILD IS ASKED TO LEAVE CAMP?
In very rare circumstances, it is necessary for a child to leave camp prior to its completion. If this is done for disciplinary reasons, there will be no refunds. All other situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and all decisions made by the Director are final.

WHAT ARE STATIONS?
Stations are one of the most important parts of camp. Stations are where your daughter will learn and practice the majority of her skills. Each team rotates from station to station improving different skills.

WHAT ELSE IS DUE AT REGISTRATON?
In addition to any tuition balances, parents/guardians will also need to make sure we have a medical waiver on file (esp. for those who registered on-line). There will also be a $30 key deposit due for each camper.

HOW MUCH FREE TIME IS THERE DURING CAMP?
The camp is structured so that campers are occupied for a majority of the day, although we realize that everyone needs a short break from time to time. Those breaks are usually arranged around meals and are done under the supervision of camp staff. Access to the pool is available at this time as well.

WHAT ARE THE DORMS LIKE?
The dormitories at Norwich are very much like your typical college dorm and each room is prepared with a thorough cleaning for your daughter’s arrival. Each floor has bathroom and shower facilities and lounge areas with televisions.

IS THERE MEDICAL STAFF AVAILABLE DURING THE EVENING?
Medical staff is available to the campers 24 hours a day. The campers are told on the first day of camp where and how to find the medical staff during all hours of the day and counselors will make sure that any problems are handled quickly and efficiently.

WHAT ELSE BESIDES BASKETBALL WILL MY DAUGHTER GAIN FROM CAMP?
In addition to excellent basketball instruction, your daughter will be able to take advantage of many of the same amenities that Norwich students enjoy during the year. Your daughter will have the chance to attend camp at one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses, during one of the best times of the year to be on campus.  In addition to on court training, there will be also be film work and lectures/demonstrations on strength and conditioning, nutrition, college admissions and academics.

Important note:  There is a $30 key deposit for all overnight campers.  This can be paid with cash or a check.  We will hold the deposit until the end of camp and when your daughter checks out and returns her key, you will be given your deposit back.  Checks are preferred.

Medical Waiver: If you registered on-line and have not signed the medical waiver that is on our registration form, you can fill one out at check-in.  If you will not be dropping off your daughter, you will need to send in a signed medical waiver prior to camp or have your child bring it with them.  You can download a registration form (www.nextlevelbballcamp.com) or you can request a form by emailing or calling.
